Hi Chad and Spbed , That news is a great help. Last time I was train watching in Truckee was july 94 and it was just constant trains and huge numbers of tunnel motors , , , oh for the good old days ! The Amtrak is an easy one having a sheduled time so I should get a few photos at least.

I don't know how many you will see dureing daylight hours but in a 24 hr period you should see well over a dozen trains, includeing 1-2 BNSF trains and Amtrak 5&6. Amtrak passes through around 9-10 am eastbound and 4-5 pm westbound if they are on time. You will see about the same ratio of tunnel motors as you would see anywhere else on the UP.

I was in Truckee in Jan 06 & saw only 1 train. As trains there are mostly destined for the bay area I would doubt if the volume is anywhere nears what you see in Southern California. If you look up the below link & then click on the Central California gallery you will see pix of the train @ Truckee

Could anyone please tell me how many trains can be seen at Truckee CA during daylight hours ? I'll be there in june so hopefully the Reno trench will let more trains through that route by then.
Also are there many tunnel motors running that route these days or is it all newer power ?
