You know that is exactly what my bro said to do about railfanning in Donner Pass. [:o)][:)]

Yes I did not mention Portola or Williams loop as I figured if you went to Keddie you would know of those 2 sites as well. You know Portola has a 6900 loco on display?

Keddie Wye as well as Williams Loop is on Feather River route (ex-WP) east of Portola where there is a real nice RR museum. That's about 100 miles from Reno.
SP9033 is correct about 6-8 trains a day during daylight. Be a lot more when they get the ditch completed.
You could go to the yard in Sparks and see a lot of stuff moving around. Otherwise go either east or west on I-80, along the Truckee River, find a shady spot and wait for something to come by.

Count the cards then you will lose your money more slowly or maybe even win some. While I have never personally railfan the Donner pass but I would suspect if you go west on I80 you are bound to see some very pretty mountain scenes. Keddie wye is also north of the Donner pass & that is also something special to see I hear. [:o)][:p][:)]

ps - Was in Rochelle (diamonds) and Galesburg (over/under BNSF) IL two weeks ago and the action was spectacular - highly recommend it!

What dates will you be here? Also, don't expect lots of daytime action. The "Overland Route" through Reno gets about 6 to 8 trains through here during daylite hours.
