Grand Haven is on a CSX branch from Holland, MI, (the Amtrak Grand Rapids train makes a stop in Holland). The Grand Trunk used to have a cross lake ferry at Grand Haven, and there is a steam engine in the park. The Coopersville & Marne tourist train is about a dozen miles east. Grand Rapids is the nearest rail center, with a CSX yard SW of town (S side of I-196), and the Grand Elk yard (former PRR) along US-131 south of downtown. Ryder Hobbies is the big hobby shop in GR.
Hello Group,
Next week I will be enjoying a few days (Thurs - Monday) in Grand Haven, MI, While I am there, I would love to catch some rail fanning time and even interested in model railroads. Does anyone have any suggestions for me of places that are good to visit? I am ok with traveling maybe up to a hour to hour and a half if its worth it. I am really not picky on what I get to photograph. Please let me know if you have any suggestions and if you happen to have the RR frequencies they use in that area - that would be helpful also! Thank you in advance!
