Railfanning in Wyoming

Does anyone know of any good spots to watch trains in southern wyoming. Preferrebly Southwestern wyoming.

I was out that way last year on vacation and came back onlong I80, I believe Green River may be good location.

Laramie isn't in southwestern WY but it's a good location for train watching with a pedestrian bridge right over the UP yard and main line. Plenty of parking and city conveniences are nearby.

You might try the pedestrian bridge in Green River. Lots of action and you can view it from overhead. It is located west of the old depot. Parking is free on the north side.

If you pretty much run straight across Wyoming on I-80, you will be parralleling the UP main line. Every town along the line has something and the larger cities have Yards. BeWARE THE RR Cops. Stay off the right o way.

If there are trains running on the Yoder Subdivision of the Union Pacific from near Pine Bluff on the main line to near South Morrill, there is a nice tunnel just north of Albin, WY that goes right under the highway between there and La Grange. Usually this line carries just northbound empty coal trains, but with Distributed Power you can get both ends.

Not Southwestern Wyoming.....Cheyanne (by the old C&S overpass), or the Powder River Basin (pretty much anywhere where you can easily see the tracks, just be smart and keep a "safe" distance from the tracks/private land)

here is a vote for Green River--great action, crew change, nice for detailed view of engines and rolling stock
--also, nice park by the old station in nearby Rock Springs if you prefer trains at speed

Granger, WY is also a good location and if you can find it Curvo, WY is a very neat place.
