Enjoying Southern Calf Hot Spots
Posted by B&Arails on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 10:23 AM

Three of us next month are going to Cajon, Tehachapi, Bakersfield, Barstow, and Fullerton.  Any advice on how to enjoy the locations?

Bring lots of extra batteries for your digital cameras! You'll be there at a good time of year weather-wise and there is plenty to see. All those areas are a bit rural but a GPS would be a good friend as well, along with a radio where you can pick-up the railroad chatter.

I'm jealous, when I lived in LowCal I used to do those runs all the time. Good places.

There is a regular group of fans that hang out at Fullerton station - there is a cafe' there.  Freight traffic volume is noticeably down on the BNSF Transcon.

It will probably be warm/hot at the locations you are going, so be prepared for heat...
