24 Hours on CSX's Chicago Main Around Nappanee IN
Posted by t.winx on Friday, January 18, 2008 5:08 PM

The first of four 24 hour counts I got on various midwest mainlines between 1-9-08 and 1-13-08. I got a scanner for christmas so I was able to catch most of the trains symbols. It is hard trying to sleep between trains and listen to the scanner and keep warm at the same time. This was a Wednesday 1-9. I started at Wellsboro IN, spent the night in Nappanee, and finished at Syracuse then I headed up to Goshen.

In total, that is 27 Intermodal (16 WB, 11 EB), 18 Freight (11 WB, 7 EB), 4 Auto (3 EB, 1 WB), 7 coal/coke/tank (3 WB, 4 EB). Not bad, but I know there is some trains I didn't see that I should've. And those 3 that I saw twice maybe should'nt be counted but since I was moving east, extra WB's and missing EB's is expected.

Here are some videos from the area:

I will post a few more counts later, from Goshen on the NS, Mazon IL on the transcon, and Malta IL on UP's Geneva sub. Let me know what you think!

Oh, yes, I forgot to say that these times are central and the times on the videos are a little off because the clock on the camera is a little off. sorry if that is a little confusing.
