I sat through a college professor's class all semester one year and tolerated his method of cramming his political views down my throat but on the last day of class before he handed out the final test he giving us all "love advice" and hoping we all find true love at least once in our lives *blah blah blah* but then he went and told "a secret about men" that he warned all the ladies in the class not to marry a railfan because that is a costly hobby. They'll spend more on the hobby than women do shopping.

Boy, I was mad that day! [:(!] Why'd he have to go and do a thing like that for? [%-)] I know he was joking but still! But it doesn't matter anyway because no one pays attention to what college professors say anyway, well, I guess I do, but it was such surpise that he said that that I'll never forget it!

I think you be better off trying to catch the eye of a woman engineer or conductor than trying to find a lady railfan. at least with a lady railroader you both would know where each other is at.

I think I've been a bit misleading, and for that I appologize. I did not create this forum specifically so that I could meet a lady. I created this forum so that anybody might have another opportunity to meet other railfans for friendly purposes or otherwise. Although I am "single," I am dating a lady who tolerates my railfanning capacities, and has even taken almost a liking to Amtrak travel. It helps that she lives in an Amtrak community, and it's extremely easy (with the 3-trains per day each way frequency) for me to visit her by rail or vice versa. As for you, Alex, I'm sorry that you have to be a "closet" railfan. :) I suppose there is a time and place for telling her, and it hasn't come yet. Perhaps when you take her on a vacation to Glacier Park on the Empire Builder...just a suggestion...

Wow, how optimistic!

Listen, does she really have to be railfan? Go ahead and look for a girl who's a hardcore railfan. Let me know how it goes, but i think I won't be around anymore when you do find someone.
Hey, my girlfriend doesnt mind my train love. Why? I never told her.....

Hoyt, if you are lucky you will meet a nice lady like my wife who (although I did not meet her while railfanning) is very supportive of my hobby and even goes out trackside with me once in a while if the weather is nice/she has nothing else to do/and I buy the Burger Kings. Good luck fellow! Jim

No, no, no - you are supposed to give words of encouragement! Maybe something like keep train watching and you never know who may pull up to stop for a train and your eyes meet across the flashing lights and gates and....

Welcome to the forums. We have told other single young men on this forum before - you probably won't have a lot of success just "meeting" young ladies that like trains.

So you will have to meet the young lady first and then slowly introduce her to your passions. She will have her own, so you will have to learn to like each other and then each other's interests.

My husband wasn't even remotely interested in trains and I never saw the value of golf or hockey. But we shared common interests and gradually incorporated these new ones into our joint life. He isn't a rabid fan as I am and I don't sit glued to a hockey or golf game on tv. But believe me, we can both discuss any of those interests and that is what makes a good relationship even better!

Good luck - and don't forget to look at some unlikely prospects. Sometimes they are the real diamond in the rough!

Single Railfans

I doubt if I'm unique in the following predicament. I'm a young, single railfan, and I am having a most difficult time meeting any female railfans near to [or far from] my age. My first hunch is that the majority of railfans are male, so I suppose it's easier for a lady railfan to meet a gentleman railfan... Oh well, if anybody wants to comment, you're welcome to do so.
