EJE:Brighton Park seems to have trains running consistantly thru the day. I access the interlocking from Archer Avenue, just west of the Burger King. There is a little road that leads up under the CTA orange line. If you are there in the morning, the sun is on the east side and you dont have to cross tracks.

Thanks for the info. I look forward to seeing it in person in Sept.

I have been going to Blue Island and Dolton ever since Pine Junction became harder to accesss. I suggest stay on the sidewalks and don't leave them at any times. The sidewalks provide easy access and a great view of all the action, so trespassing is not neccessary. If you stay on the sidewalks, you should not have any problems with CSX. I suggest if you go in the morning, park on the west side of the junction between the CN and Iowa Interstate connector, then walk over all tracks on the sidewalk for the best photos. In the afternoon, just stand between the CN and Iowa Interstate connector. Blue Island Junction is a great place for photos with the bridges as a background. These two lines are about 30 yards apart, so there is no worry about having to stand right next to the tracks for photos. I have never had problems parking in this area. In fact, I had a nice chat with the crossing gate tower operator once when I was there. I would like to go to Brighton Park before July 6th when the signals are supposed to be cut over. What is the best time for photos of trains passing the semaphores there? Does it require crossing any of the tracks, because I really don't want to do that. Here is a great page for information about Blue Island Junction. http://www.dhke.com/CRJ/blueisland.html

Thanks, less people to switch the subject. I truely appreciate that. Thank you.
The map says that Brighton Park is like at 25th street & Blue Island is at 125th street thus the 100 city block reference

Thank you very much for your assistance. The 2nd site was really terrific.
Coming from NY we figured like 6/8 city blocks to a mile & as you have to go about 100 blocks or so I would guess between 5/10 miles between each juncture.
Ah yes I also saved the link for future use. Depending on time I may also try to get to Dolton for a bit & see if anything has changed from my visit several years ago
Thanks 1 more time!

Andrew:Yes, the blocks are 8 to a mile, thus the distance would be about 10 miles. It will take about 30 minutes.
Dan Ryan would easily take you that long with the construction issues.
BTW, this is a dialog, not a monolog, thus we will drift from time to time. Dont worry too much about it. Where else will you get the kind of in-depth information you need?
Jim, I stopped trying to respond to this youngster after he threw a hissy fit over some website not accepting his train pics. He came here and asked for honest opinions about those pics, which he received from several professional photogs, self included.
Fit No.2 came when he couldn't take the constructive criticism he received, which also included some terrific advice.

Sure it helps a ton to be able to get info from somebody that is there all the time. I already printed it. Thank you very much for your assistance. Maybe I will bump into you there before proceeding to Rochelle.

Not really, but hey know the good guys from the bad guys and so if you are one of the former you should not have much of a problem at all. This is a really busy junction and although I don't get there much any more I highly recommend it to everybody. Thanks! Eola yard is basically in Aurora (there is a small town called Eola which is surrounded by Aurora and Naperville on the far East side of the yard, but I digress) and best place is the intersection of McClure and the BNSF main line. This is on the far west side of the yard and I suggest the Southeast corner of the intersection of McClure and the tracks where you will find a road that goes east from McClure into the yard and right off McClure you will find a dirt spot big enough for about twenty cars (which is what we get on some weekends) and you will find it good for watching both mainline and switching moves from there. The parking I mention is right across from the Eola Yard offices of BNSF, where you will also be able to see the engine "pit" or "house" as the crews call it, right behind the offices and you can see it from McClure. Hope this helps.

FORGET WHAT I SAID, KEEP ON DRIVING ALL THE WAY TO ROCHELLE AND DON'T STOP HERE.
Thanks is that North or Southside so I can get the directions from Mapquest?
NEVER MIND I found it. Thanks again.
Now another question how would you get from Blue Island to Brighton Park?
