Hey Beau, I didn't know that the train still stopped in Detriot.  What station does it use?

There is one feasible route without using a bus connection, from each Montreal or Toronto. From Montreal you take the Adirondack to Albany, NY and then the Lakeshore Ltd. to Chicago. From Toronto you would take the Maple Leaf to Buffalo, and catch the Lakeshore Ltd. there. Neither connection is very good.

The best option is to take a Via Rail train to Windsor, then a Bus or Taxi to Detroit, and one of several Amtrak trains from their to Chicago. The best bet though is to fly or drive.
