I will always remember the Wisconsin Central...long trains, great looking paint scheme, very good trackage, great running SD45 and F45 locomotoves, etc. Sorry to see it go. Jim in Aurora

That's good news. I always find it nice to here about a railroad that is expanding and opening new operations.

I love it too! They will even have to make their whole mainline double track to get J's trains through I think.

In Illinois mine is the EJ&E. By 2007 they will have a new Metra line built on this railroad that reaches all the way up to O' Hare airport. Go EJ&E!

It's interesting to note that Wisconsin & Southern's maroon and gray colors are repeated in Australia by Austrac, which used to operate trains but now is strictly in the leasing business.

In Minnesota, the St. Croix Valley Railroad (SCXY) operating the old Northern Pacific
between Hinckley and North Branch (they ran the old GN line from south of Hinckley to
Mora but that's getting pulled-up this winter I heard from the SCXY folks).

In Iowa, the Iowa Northern operating the old Rock Island between Cedar Rapids and
Manly. I liked the I&M Rail Link's colors too until they sold-out to the IC&E.

In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin & Southern as I think they have the sharpest livery in
railroading today.

In the Chicago Metro area: my favorites have long been Iowa Interstate among the line-haul carriers and IHB and BRC among the terminal lines.
During the same time, I've seen Chicago Central & Pacific and Wisconsin Central come and go and I&M Rail Link change to Iowa, Chicago & Eastern. Wisconsin & Southern runs into Clearing but its schedule makes it difficult to follow.

In Delaware we have the Brandywine Valley Railroad. It connects CSX with a steel mill in Coatesville, PA. The track runs through the hills, real scenic, with sharp curves. The row was originally the Wilmington and Reading RR.

We also have the Wilmington & Western tourist line. This line was recently washed out during some heavy rain (8 – 10 inches in a few hours). The State of Delaware is going to help finance the re-build.

In north Louisiana, we have the Louisiana and North West (also my employer), the Ouachita RR, the Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi (the AL&M; used to be A&LM, M being Missouri) and the Delta Southern.

In central Louisiana you have the Acadiana RR and the Timber Rock RR.

In south Louisiana, you have Louisiana & Delta, Gloster Southern, New Orleans Public Belt, New Orleans and Lower Coast, the Lake Charles Harbor District Terminal RR, and probably others I can't remember.

I vote for San Luis Central account its longevity (Since 1913)[:D]....Windsor, Severance & Eaton RR may become #7....Canon City & Royal Gorge RY is not the common carrier of record, just a tennant to RRRR[xx(], SSLV and Trinidad Ry are gone, Colorado Leadville & Southern is embargoed as a common carrier (isolated & cut-off at leadville).

Kyle/RailAmerica is the only regional here...(Old Rock Island now resurrected from the grave & the weeds ....looks much better than it it did '85-'88)

What is your favorite shortline in your state? In Nebraska the Nebraska Regional would be mineIt runs through Fremont and then north and west from there. I know that each state probably has its own unique shortlines and interested to hear about them.
