Microsoft Train Simulator

Not! I went surfing last night after my usual 250 word theme went missing, and found residual results off the websites listed. My base of ops are MR, and Trains, so I started with the websites listed and studied the links. Alabamarailfan.com, Webdotwiz.com, Dekosoft.com and Sandpatchdispatch.com are MSTS sites. 3rd PlanIt, from trackplanning.com offers a great demo with limits(and SD40's)! TrainzProRoutes is offering a Clinchfield scenario thats fantastic. These programs are just a little more than answering e-mail, However if I can, you can, so just do it! Download the tutorials, most sites offer Adobe Acrobat 5.0 as freeware so store these downloads in your program files. Print the tutorial and make a folder to do your homework. I can tell you if you keep studying the tutorial and can lay track, build a model railroad, then after a while you'll begin to look for new challenges. It's the answer to running trains through three states, without going outside! And there are folks all over the world who want to learn about the technical side of the hobby, of railroading and model railroading in the United States of America! My query is, how much of this is compatable? Will the Aurans Trainz run MSTS and vice versa? Enjoy your Virtual Hobby!

Dudes I'm getten a new DELL [bow] I'm not going to know how to act. [:D] It should be delivered by Thursday. [8D] But from what I've read I'll have to wait for MSTS2.

I heard someone say they may be COMPLETELY rewriting it! like maybe they want to use a better programming language! You can still find screenshots though.

Maybe they just don't want to compete with Poptop & Gatherings RT3 (RR tycoon 3).

I guess thats why I haven't seen it in stores. I was going to post a topic about MSTS2 and where did it go, but good thing I found this topic. Microsoft took MSTS2 off the MSTS website in December I think, now I know why if you say 2005 or 06. I hope they are adding new features to the game or rewriting it because they found a major problem. Lets hope it comes out sooner than 2006.[sigh]

I can't wait for MSTS2. Ive seen screenshots from the PRR level (Horshoe curve w/ k4s's), and it's even more realistic, plus it has PEOPLE! Only downside, it was slated to come out Sept. 2003, now Ive heard we may have to wait until '05 or '06!

My Train Sim hasn't run since I met my wife and tried to load it. It tells me it has loaded successfully but it will not run. I'm about to throw this Moo Cow POS out the window and get a bigger Delland a new copy of MSTS.[soapbox][banghead]

Train Simulator is great, I just downloaded it on my other computer yesterday (I've had it since 2001, but the computer blew up last April and I lost the info).

There is now an activity where you crash into another train ON PURPOSE! Go to http://www.sandpatchdispatch.tk and click on the Sandpatch route for details. It's called Dispatcher error. You have to have the origional Sandpatch add-on and I think some other downloads. The activity is found on www.train-sim.com.

Also, they're talking about Trainsim2 to be released in June 2004.

I wish you would have posted this link earlier! I spent a couple days trying alias cabviews and sounds mostly on my own. I used references from kevarc's page but it was of little help (sorry kevarc). But it did give me some clues on what to look for. Over at the train simulation software forum I posted my findings and instructions and it's kind of an abbreviated version of what you can find at the link there in the quote.

My description is probably a little confusing but I tried to write it step-by-step as simply as possible.

Train Simulator is becoming a big hobby. I have enjoyed the game for 1 1/2 years, and I really like it.
Earlier a question was asked about crashing two trains together. You cannot do that in activity modes, since you cannot pass a red light (it automatically ends the activity) and cannot align switches to get into the path of oncoming trains. You cannot hit another train in the explore route mode, since you are the only train there. While I havent tried this, but you uncouple some cars from your train, go some distance, turn around and come back at full speed towards the cars...

Thanks, I'll do that. I got bored with the scenarios that came with it and I have been doing things like stealing all of the cars that I can find in the yards and trying to pull them. It sure is a shame that the additional engines don't add any more power...

One more question though. Which ever view is supposed to be from the rear of the car, three I think, only works with the original train. Once you uncuple a car it looses it and will only hover around the last car to never be uncupled. Is thier any way to fix this so that I can see the rear of all trains?

Do a search for "MSTS", "Train Simulator", and other variations of the phrase. There are many "home brew" scenarios, loco and car skins, etc, out there. I downloaded a "timesaver" which is almost better than any of the scenarios that come with the game. Had to get a fix from MS for the front coupler bug (may have been fixed in later releases), but it's still great. Of course, "caveat emptor" - "let the buyer beware" - applies to anything you download, whether you pay for it or not.

Hey, does anybody know a good place to download extra railcars, locos, and such? Or do you know of anybody who custom makes cars. Their are a lot of things that I would love to add...[;)]

Well, I dont know about scenery dissapearing, But i have been, as I would put it, "Sent to another Dimention" NEC..Baltimore.. explore route mode.. went into tunnel, track ended, ground was all the sudden 20 feet above the train, fell UP, "game ended- car derailed", and I have run trains : off bridges, into the laws of physics (got an hhp-8 to stand on its nose), had one go straight on a turn (somewhat realistic when the cars ran into the bridge pier), and I have even launched an Acela (10 feet in the air, 100 feet from launch site) off a hill.

Has anyone with Train Simulator noticed that at certain points on some of the routes, the scenery disappears? Sometimes on mine, the entire scene disappears except for the rails, the cab display goes strange, and the mouse cursor turns into a small square of numbers and letters. This has happened on both the Northeast Corridor and Marias Pass routes.

Hi, I haven't picked one up yet but, I have been to a few search engines and found MANY expansion packs ie, Chicago to Aurora, Cajon Pass and lots of neat ones. From what I could gather these are free downloads, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi I got one too, pretty good for a game, and the detail is all most real. I hope Microsoft makes a an expansion tracks pack, and have a little more detail, like people at the station that you are to stop at,ect.
Overall it great, enjoy.

Got Microsoft Train Simulator a couple days ago. It is fabulous. Also own Trainmaster TM4 and it was somewhat interesting at first but since Microsoft TS has come out it's the one to have. Extremely pleased with this realistic "game".
