Saw a Union Pacific Powered Coal train head west through my town of Wooddale Illinois. Had IC and CC hoppers loaded with coal. Had SP unit on the lead. even though It was cleared with the UP 6044 west. My guess it was only thirty Four thousand feet long. if that. thanks for all your responses again Shawn

the answer to your question is yes, but currently IMRL is having problems with flooding, and the stacks are taking a different route. I work into KC from the west (Herington) and we hand off and pick up stacks all the time from IMRL crews.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I did see a UP coal drag pass thru east bound today. It was the first unit coal train I've see in weeks. The last was a BNSF also east bound. As for stacks, I have not seen any for about a month. Doesn't mean they didn't go by, I just didn't see them.

Since rail traffic has declined somewhat due to the "slowdown" in the economy, the need to route traffic over alternate routes because of train congestion has diminished. It costs money to haul your freight over someone else's railroad, so it is only done when unavoidable.
