SCHERERVILLE | A new feature at Quad Town Safety Village will help keep children on track about railroad safety.Quad Town Safety Village in Schererville is a hands-on facility where children learn about traffic, pedestrian, fire and railroad safety.Canadian National donated $10,000 and developed a plan for the interactive village and for the classroom portion of railroad safety education, Operation Lifesaver.Canadian National first got involved after representatives attended the Safety Village open house, said Eric Graf, a special agent for the Canadian National Railroad Police Department.A portion of the village was set aside for railroad safety, but Safety Village operators were still looking for a railroad company to get involved, he said."We thought it would be a good opportunity for us to become a part of it," Graf said.Having a specific site for railroad safety education also helps Canadian National, whose instructors are used to traveling to schools and churches to teach children how to be safe around trains, Graf said.
