Armed teens board train, kill passenger
By Matthew Savides & Sapa A passenger on a late night train trip from Durban to Johannesburg was killed early on Thursday when six teenagers boarded the train to rob passengers. According to police, the six, all aged between 16 and 17, had boarded the train near Estcourt soon after midnight. All were armed. Spoornet spokesperson Mike Asefovitz said the youths had boarded the train as ordinary passengers, and had bought tickets for the trip. Police Superintendent Phindile Radebe said the passengers were robbed of cellphones, cash and other belongings. One of the passengers was shot and killed, and his body was thrown off the train while it was moving. His body was later recovered about 15km from Estcourt Station.
