Welcome the the Forum. I see it's your 1st post. I assume by 'layup' you mean 'stopped'. The #1 reason is more than likely that 1 or 2 blocks ahead of the train are occupied. Take some time to browse thru some of the posts here. The members are great and can answer just about anything. --Rich
Have always been interested in using layups as a photo opp. for trains...what are the most ideal conditions for a train to get laid up on the track? Does it simply depend on what is happening up ahead at a particular yard or does this happen at grade crossings as well? I have seen trains stop on the tracks at times for no apparent reason and would like know what are the most common situations for this.... Thanks in advance
