Youre asking members of the asylum if you are crazy, diehard or nuts. I say no, and my wish for you is that not only really enjoy it, that also perhaps you can share your experiences with the rest of us who would trade places with you if we could, in a heartbeat.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

You are not crazy. You are not nuts. I, too, work for a railroad--the Louisiana and North West RR. I'm getting paid to play. Sometimes I work the agent job in Gibsland yard. It has a radio for the LNW and a radio for the KCS. It also has a computer hooked up to KCS' MCS system. I can find any car and any locomotive on any train on the KCS. The radioes pick up from a great distance. This office is a railfan's dream come true. So I understand what you are talking about. There is nothing wrong with your situation. You and I have jobs we love. There are some folks that wi***hey were in our shoes.

I would PAY any scenic railroad who would let me on the footplates of any old working steamer. Some people have all the fun.

Lucky!

I wi***hat I could do more than volunteer for the rail museum and build my model trains. I'd much rather work for the RR's than work at my current job and I like my current job!

Just sounds to me that you are living the life that many of us wish we could. It would be work yes, but I wish I worked with you. And the steam engine, ohhhhhhhh baby. YES, YES, YES. [:)] I love the old steamers. What a shame there are not more than could still run. The younger generation might appreciate the chance to see one in operation. I have seen the Cotton Belt 819, and both UP steamers run. I love them.

Someone once said, find something you like to do and then make a living at it. You have done what many would love to do. Are you nuts? NO, you just love your work.

HOW CRAZY DO YOU HAVE TO BE

I MUST BE A COMPLETE TRAIN NUT. I AM GOING TO SIGN UP TO WORK AS AN ENGINEER ON A LOCAL SCENIC RAILROAD NEAR MY HOME. THIS ON TOP OF WORKING FUUL TIME AS A N ENGINEER/CONDUCTOR FOR CSX. BEING A VOLUNTEER I WILL ONLY GET REIMBURSED FOR MILEAGE. I JUST FIND IT FASCINATING TO BE A PART OF A LIVING PIECE OF RAILROAD HISTORY. I WILL BE DOING THIS ON MY VACATION NO LESS SO I WILL BE GETTING PAID SOMETHING REALLY. WELL THE QUESTION REMAINS, AM I A DIEHARD RAILFAN OR AM I JUST NUTS.
