Chip,
If memory is serving me right, the CN articulated covered hoppers were designed for the many branch lines in the praire provincies of Canada. The basic idea is to distribute the weight of the car over the light rail. Do not know how many were purchased.
Cannot ever remember seeing one on the Michigan Zone.

I was in Cresson, PA sitting on Tom's porch and we both saw an articulated CN covered hopper on an eastbound NS. This was a first for both of us. It looks like a normal covered hopper but there is a small gap where the car rests on the middle articulated truck. What is the point in this car and are there very many?
