In theUP loco directory 1998, CNW 6636 was retired feb 21 1997 by the UP. Was not assigned UP numbers. I would say it is still out there some were.

Hello,
I was looking in my CNW books and found CNW SD 18 #6636. Here is some information from the book.
Date Built Bldr No. Acquired Prev. Road
10/59 25610 3/82 PNC 1833
UP Renumber Paint
# 2890 TY (OY) (6636 is believed to have been served as an experimental application of the new "Traditional yellow" under consideration by management in 1991. 6636 was later repainted in standard traditional yellow scheme.
CNW 6636 was renumbered so I believe it is still in operation on the UP system. As far as where it is, it is hard to say. I see CNW wide cabs and standard cabs go through North Platte but in rare times. I would say it might be in Proviso or around the Midwestern area, but that is my thought. You might try using the Equipment trace on the uprr.com web site. I have not figured out how to use this myself but when my friend who works for UP is in and stops by I will ask him. I hope this has helped. If you have any questions on the CNW send me a note at cnw400@nque.com and I will see if I can help or relay you to fellow CNW fans.
Bye,
Brian

What happened to the former CNW Operation Lifesaver locomotive # 6636 after the Union Pacific RR took over the CNW? Was it re-painted? scrapped? Sold to some other road? ???
