Nebraska Football Trains??
Posted by Granny74 on Sunday, October 19, 2003 12:02 AM
Mookie: Are there trains that bring the football fans to Lincoln from the western part of Nebraska ?? And were you at the game today?? Or maybe you are not a football fan!( According to my sources, there are no people in Nebraska who are not football fans.) I hear tickets are hard to come by.I saw the game on Fox Sports AZ---due to the fact that the Cardinals and the U of A are not doing very well, I was privileged to see a "real" football team, Nebraska, play! Is it just my imagination or did they used to send passenger trains to Lincoln for the games?? Whe I was young, part of the road was gravel from York to Lincoln, so people rode the train.
We enjoy your posts![:D]

nance69,there was a private group who owned "Cornhusker Club Car " which was a 1924 Pullman.Painted Gray with White lettering, which was hauled to Lincoln from Omaha by the CB&Q.The car was given to the Durham Western Heritage Museum and re-finished as close to possible as the 1924 Pullman sleeper car it was.It is open and on display in the lower area of the museum. Also open and displayed are 1956 vintage Lounge Car,Sleeper Car,caboose and #1243 4-6-0 UP made by Cooke in 1890 and was last used in 1955 in Wyoming.I have often thought if BNSF would run a train to Lincoln for games, station is 4 blocks from stadium,it would make I-80 less of a problem on game days.

Thanks for the info.I wasn't aware of the Cornhusker Club Car. That is really interesting plus all the other car info. I agree with you about the BNSF running a train to Lincoln for games. I have been away from Nebraska since 1940 as far as living there, but once a Cornhusker, always a Cornhusker!

Mookie took the weekend off as usual and then decided to take Monday off too. But I'm back.....

Didn't get to the game, didn't even get to hear much - was with aged parents this Sat - 3 of us are fans, 1 isn't - so majority ruled - we listened to Mookie's Mother instead of the game.

But it sounds like we did ok and played like a good Nebraska team!

Welcome to Chemung, too. I am so glad to have a couple of Nebraskans here on the forum to answer the easy questions, while Mook handles the really tough ones - like what day is it and where the yellow thingies are...
