Thanks for the feedback.  The green DB hatch was painted because it was easiest to mask off and continued the theme I had started with the -8 and -9.  I'll also put this in the MR section, but thought people in here might also get a kick out of it.

Dan!

That's pretty interesting. Good job! Although, I don't get the green DB hatch...are you modeling a unit that had its DB hatch replaced, and they didn't bother to paint the "new" DB hatch? I've never seen that, but I'm sure it's possible.

You might want to try posting this in the MR section as well.

The SD40-2 is 99% done!  Yeah, I know it took me a bit longer to finish it than I thought.  Here's some shots of it on my desk as of tonight:

The SD40-2 should be done in a day or two.  I'm just letting the paint dry before final decaling.  The second -9 had a serious paint error and will be scrapped.  There will be stills of them together and also a video or two.

I started working on the SD40-2 today and hopefully I can have it done by Friday.  Decals are going on the -9 this afternoon.

awesome. i miss both RRs. but at least i know i can go see an SP SD45 at a museum when i really want to. we need that with a CNW standard cab hood unit. but all in due time i suppose.

this patch job is looking good though, Dan, keep up the good work. i cant wait to see these pull trains

I did the same thing, only with SP. I took an Athearn SD40-2, painted the nose red, with a white SP,and relettered the unit SOUTHERN PACIFIC.

Nice.  At this point I'm trying to keep things to April-July of 1995 for modeling purposes so some of the other roads are still safe!  Probably going with 2013 for the -9 and 1683 for the -8 at this point based on this:

C&NW 8501-8577 C40-8 1995-Present
UP 9100-9559*To C&NW 1500-1960 C40-8/W 1987-Present

C&NW 8601-8730 C44-9W 1994-Present
UP 9700-9834 *To C&NW 2000-2135 C44-9W 1994-Present

CNW 6801-6935 SD40-2 1972-Present
UP 3123-3804 *To C&NW 2317-2999 SD40-2 1972-Present

HAHA. Thats good! Not somthing I would do as I model both the UP, SP, and CNW as if they had never merged, patched or anything;. They do co-mingle alot though Tongue [:P]

Actually I have planned to put the emblems/road numbers on them by Friday of this week.  I'll post some pics of them when they're done.  I'm modeling these as though the merger went the other way around.

I am kind of neutral in my feelings toward both roads, but I have a friend here in our local HO scale club who detests the U.P. because they gobbled up his favorite road, the C&NW. I once suggested that we reletter a U.P. locomotive with "UNION PATHETIC"  or an armor yellow caboose with "No, we can't handle it."!!
