    Greetings,

All are welcome to join the "Terrible Twelve" meeting at Twelve Noon.  Please join in.  As far as Model Railroad Club Open Houses after Trainfest I have another one to add to the list.  This is one is a CLASSIC and almost a must see.

The Milwaukee Union Terminal or MUT or The Milwaukee "O" Scale Club will be open after Trainfest on Saturday November 11th from 7pm to 9pm.  This is one of the oldest model railroad club layouts around.  It is located in the basement of the old Washington Street Depot.  The depot was on the Milwaukee Road , now Canadian Pacific.  So trains can be heard rumbling above the layout.  The layout is 2-track O scale.  It features air powered switches and a large trainboard on the wall used to track the train.  Also in the middle of the layout is a traction layout.   If you have never seen the MUT before maybe take some time and take a step back in time.  The club is located around 215 E. National Ave.  If you go under the tracks you went to far.  The entrance is in the side of the wall on the west side of the CP tracks. The MUT club will be at Trainfest for more information.

Looking forward to meeting everyone at Trainfest.  HIGH NOON at the Kalmbach Booth

Keith

Make sure you all get some traction action at Trainfest as well...

Stop over at The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Transit Historical Society booth to learn about the streetcar/interurban/trolleybus history of Southeastern Wisconsin. Check out the historical displays (maps, photos, artifacts), learn about the Society (memberships, publications in print and on video), and marvel at the intricacies of O-scale streetcars and interurbans running on the layout via live overhead.

Not to mention the other electric transit displays (North Shore Line) and various other traction modellers groups that will be there.

As for the NAPM Open House afterwards on Saturday night...if you have a chance, go see it. It is a very nicely done, very large permanent club layout (part of which was featured in the March 2003 issue of MR, other parts of which are posted on the club's website (link posted by Noah a few messages above)). I last saw the NAPM in person maybe 10-15 years ago, and was blown away by it then (especially the very cool, very massive Union Station scene!), so it will be neat to see it again after all these years, with more work having been done on it since then.

Keith and others,

Mind if I drop by as well?  This will be the fourth year for me, and the soon to be mrs. techguy wouldn't miss the opportunity to buy another car for her Lionel Christmas train. Normally we go on Sunday but there is a bridal shower near to us on Sunday so its model trains on Sat. and wedding dress trains on Sun for me.  Hope to meet you all at noon.

    Greetings,

I just had the pleasure of joining dknelson for dinner.  We have made a decision, I guess.  We figured lets have the meeting of the TRAINS.Com forum at High Noon on Saturday.  This way people traveling in can get there.  Also the locals can have a chance to get their shopping done (not me though).  So unless Erik would not be able to make it at 12 noon the meeting of the "Terrible Twelve" will be at Twelve Noon, which I guess is appropriate.   Be prepared for a group portrait, Dave said he is bringing the sign.

Regarding Open Houses.  NAPM is open from about 6pm to 11pm(?).  There is no charge that I am aware of.  It was free last year.  They had over 100 people visit the layout last year.  It is quite a large layout, have to check out the Lego station,  Impressive.

Also the N-scale club I belong to is having an Open House. The Milwaukee N Southeastern Club will be open from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.  The MNSE is the only N-scale club in the area with a permanent club layout.  We are located in Cudahy, WI at Packard and Squire Ave.  For better directions to the club
Click Here for the MNSE Webpage  mnse.org

It is open to the public, I believe starting at 7:00 pm Saturday night only. No cost so far as I know. The club has a website at www.napmltd.org with more information about the club and layout, although nothing about the open house. I'm told they will also have a booth at trainfest, so you can stop by there to find out more information specifically about the open house. Just look for NAPM or "North American Prototype Modelers" in the list of displayers and you should find their booth.

Sorry I don't know much about it, but I'm simply going because another member of my model railroad club is also a member there, and he suggested we should come check it out. Apparently it's a pretty impressive layout from what I've been told (and not just by people who belong to the club) and what I've seen on their website.

If it's not written in stone and you guys don't mind, I wouldn't mind moving it to a little later (say 12 noon or after). I'm going to be down in Milwaukee till later that night at a local model railroad club's open house (North American Prototype Modelers for those of you that know it), and so the later we start the later I can wait to get there. That way I'll be on the road for less time in the day. After all, I like Milwaukee, but I can only stand so many hours in it.....Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Really though, I could still make 11:30 if it's what the rest of the group wants. Of course, it does depend what Erik can make too, if he can make it. You out there Bergie?

We'll try to set a time by Thursday -- as Keith said, 11:30 is not written in stone.

We just want as many there as would like to join us.  AM or PM makes no difference BUT it would be nice for Erk to join us if he can make it

Max,

So far as I know trainfest doesn't have a limit to tickets that they would sell out, so that shouldn't be a problem. Some Hobby Shops in WI (mainly in the Milwaukee area) do sell tickets in advance though so you can avoid having to stand in line to buy them if you wanted too.

    Greetings,

Of course the 11:30am time is not set in stone either.  It also depends if Erik will be at Trainfest and what times he will be in the Kalmbach area.   Hopefully at that time of the day the ticket lines will not be that long.  With the ability to buy Trainfest tickets in advance at local hobby shops the lines have gotten shorter.  By this time next week hopefully I will still have all my money and the credit card will be cold in the wallet.

11:30 should work for me, although I'll know better towards the end of the week. Might not be there at 11:30 on the dot though, it all depends on how long the ticket lines are by that point....

Hopefully see you there,

kalmbach booth? 11:30 AM Saturday? sounds good. i'll be wearing my CNW hat and custom T shirt from my high school's model railroad club. it says "Memorial High School Model Railroad Club" on it with a purple and white locomotive. and the back says "it's hard to stop a Koehn". just to point me out. this sounds fun!

OK, Keith Schmidt has set 11:30 am Saturday morning at the Kalmbach booth as our meeting time and place.  I will try to bring a small sign so we all gather in the same place -- failing that look for young Mr Keating in his painfully bright shirt and fedora hat.

    Greetings,

So with one week to go, should we decide on a time for the "Meeting".  Last year it was 11am, I am thinking maybe 11:30am.  This would give Noah a chance to be there without rushing, plus it would give more shopping time,  OOPS that right I'm not spending any money this year.  Peoples thoughts on the time for the gathering.

    Greetings,

    Chris,

WOW to outdo the shirt from last year.  That could be a dazzling display.  I was down in Kenosha Saturday watching a high school football game.  Man, it was windy and cold.  I did get to see one of the streetcars running, I think it was the Cinninatti Car.  Don't forget the Fedora either

    Noah,

I think the time is pretty flexible,  I know I will be there from about 8:30am until 4:30pm.  It sounds like the group is growing.

Jim,

Enjoy your trip to Sacramento, it will probably be warmer there than back here in Milwaukee.  That would be great if your wife Pam would stop by. It would be a pleasure to meet her.

Dave,

I could do 11 if it's better for the rest of you, but it would probably work out a little better for me if we could make make it more like noon or so. I don't figure on getting down to Trainfest until about 11am anyway (as it's a good two hour drive from my neck of the woods), so by the time I'd get tickets into the show and everything if there is much of a line, something more like noon or even slightly later would work better. But if you guys would rather meet at 11, I would think I could swing getting down there a little earlier than planned.

I will be there. It's a tradition with some of my friends. We get together and drive up for the weekend. It is one of the best shows ever. I love it. Lots of trains, dealers, companies to visit.

Happy railroadingLaugh [(-D]

Short of having a shirt that actually plugs into a wall socket, I'm not sure it will be possible for you to outdo last year's shirt! Big Smile [:D]

You know after you look at something really bright, or have your photo taken, how you have that bright dot in your vision every time you blink? That's what I'm experiencing right now after looking at the large version of that photo above!

Clown [:o)] Bergie

I'm not sure if we should either have him stay away from the Kalmbach display (because the shirt dwarfs the display's presentation) or if he should stay at the booth (everyone will be wondering where the glow is coming from and rush to see, thereby bringing them to the booth).

Perhaps we should all wear outrageous shirts there--wouldn't that be a sight !?!

Unless I incorporated it into the roadbed of my layout somewhere I still have the "Trains.com Forums" sign that Keith and Erik were holding in last year's picture.   We need to set a time when we all meet at the Kalmbach booth.  Last year I think it was 11 am but there is nothing magic about the time.  Think you can make it by that time Noah?
