3 Gorges and How many Rails?

Thanks...that's kind of what I expected.  Would love to see that for myself...

I heard they are already"Adding" (or contemplate adding) a "ship elevator", such as one designed by the dutch, to make it quicker for certain sized ships (especially the tourist boats) to transit the locks, doing it in one lift.  Aparrently the traffic load for the larger locks holds up the fare paying passengers......

Now, if I could only overlay the new lake on top of this Rail Map of China....

....I agree....believe no railroads existed in any of the gorges.  I saw several of those programs relating what was happening with the rising water, etc....One showed transportation {before this program was started}, and it showed lines of men employed just to drag {with ropes}, boats up across shallow rockey parts of the river to reach upper areas.  Didn't see any RR's in any of the programs I watched of the area.

What a massive project...Believe one of the largest ever attempterd on Earth....The depth of the Locks was unbelievable....!

I don't think their were any railroads within the area that will be flooded bvehind the damn.  The towns along the river used the river for transportation. Last May one could see a lot of highway construction from the river but no railroads were in sight except for the new railroad being built into Fusan. The Three Gorges themselves are too rugged for anything other than a two lane road.  Those roads have only been built in the last decade.

Does anybody know how many rail lines had to be relocated when China began building the Three Gorges dam?

I say a Discovery or History channel program about the huge relocation of people required, and that they moved entire cities to higher ground, but I dont recall anything about the infrastructure such as railroads.
