Jettrain

I have some questions about the Jet Train of Bombardier:

1. how is the consist of the train? Loco - 6 cars - loco like the Acela?
2. Are the passenger cars the same as of acela?
3. is the jettrain already in regular use? is a use planned?

i plan to remodel it in ho scale with the bachmann acela, so an answer for the questions 1 and 2 is very important for me.

The JetTrain is just an alternative locomotive for the Acela cars. It is largely based on the Acela locomotive because its design (Tier 2)is quite unique. It is intended for non-electrified territory.

1. & 2. It's just a locomotive that can be used with any passenger cars. It is fairly light weight compared to a typical 4 axle diesel (especially those MK monsters!) so a single JetTrain couldn't pull too long a consist. Top speed would be limited to that of the passenger cars unless Acela cars were used.

3. One has been built as a demonstrator, funded in part by the Federal Railroad Admin. None have been ordered. Amtrak is the likely purchaser. They have funding problems, so no orders likely. States with high-speed programs/dreams have no spare money, either. It might be a few years before an order is placed.

Isn't this locomotive called "Jettrain" because it uses a turbo based on an aircraft design?

If you navigate around in there, you should find the tech. specs. on the prime mover -- all I know is that its a jet turbine, runs on diesel fuel -- but how they get the power to the rails ? -- I don't yet know.

The only photos that I have seen, had just one loco lashed up with a motley collection of Amfleet (and older) equipment -- which I previously complained about on another topic.

Florida has decided to use the Jet Train in its HSR corridor between Tampa and Orlando. However, no order has been placed yet....
