loco engineer wanted.. no experience nec..

this is the job decription for a position of loco engineer..
application must be made thru the employment service dept. of whatever state you are in..

there must be a lot to read when the application is being completed, because there is no mention of experience, job skills, etc., here.. nothing about prior r.r. exp., or knowing anything about the job beforehand..

r.rs. such as ns, csx have a long discussion about the peculiar r.r. life in their descriptions, but not amtrak..

why would amtrak advertise this postion w/o mentioning the dark side? would they assume anyone who would apply should already know before applying?

What??????!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe that I share the same RR with "no experience necessary," engineers. Just what I want.....be sittin' in the hole waitin' for the #3 or #4 to go rippin' by piloted by an engineer that has no experience. I am never givin' Amtrak a rollby insp. again. I'm gonna run as far away from the ROW as possible!!!!!!!!!!

the headline was meant as a joke, because the info. on america's job bank website did not mention anything the applicant must bring to the job..

there may be experience and other requirements revealed at an interview or application meeting, but additional requirements are not referenced in this description..

if the requirements are strict, it seems the applicant would at least be advised to get all the information before making a decision about r.r. work..

it seems even more odd amtrak does not state the rigors of r.r. work, because the class 1s do give detailed info. about the lifestyle in their crew descriptions..

why are you so upset... they told me to go over to that side of the engine and practice starting and stopping. when i figured out what did what up there and started moving i looked around and everyone was gone. there was voices on the radio that cheered me on. nest thing i know i am going down the track. the only thing they told me was stop the train if i see 2 or more red lights and go on anything else. i say a flashing red light the other night i tried catching it to see what it was, but it disappeared and was replaced with 2 red ones. so i stopped. next time ill bet i catch it to see what it is.
