Old boxcar +3.  I'd have to say that it's old, because it's wooden!  (Sorry, tongue stuck in cheek!  Big Smile [:D])

It originated as a box car.  I'm sure it was converted to outfit use before being removed from its trucks, judging from the doors at both ends.  The peaked roof suggests something from late in the 19th century to me.

This shack does not sit on railroad property.  The closest railroad would have been C&NW about 5 miles west of it's current location.  the Milwaukee road had a line about 10 miles east of here at one time.  both have been abandoned.

thanks

Thats definetly an old boxcar, the corner irons and the rolling door are a dead giveaway, but that doesnt mean it was used by a RR, old cars were often sold off and used as farm outbuildings and such.  Its possible this was a RR section house, bunk shack or similar use, but not knowing the local history I cant speculate any farther.

Then I was traveling the countryside in Wisconsin last Thursday I came across this old farm shack. (See picture) I couldn’t help but wonder if it had been an old railcar of some kind.

A wall splitting the room in half separated the interior. One side looked like it was for freight, the other passengers or maybe an office. The office side had an hole in the roof that could have been from a stove chimney. The tin roof did not look original, and the shack was sitting directly on the ground with no floor or footings of any kind. The paint on the outside looked like red oxide primer, and I looked everywhere for logos and could find none.

So what do you think does this shack have railroad origins?

Any speculation on RR company, or type of car?

Their are 3 photos, this link takes you to the first then hit next to see the others.
