Prior to 1980 I had little knowledge of the MKT RR. That yr, Katy acquired ex Rock Island trk from Herington.KS through Wichita into Ft.Worth connecting w/Katy trackage there. This was operated by a new sister rr, Oklahoma, Kansas & Texas. Wichita became a small hub for OKKT w/a daily yd job working @ Cline yd that switched several shippers in town. Train service was Herrington-FT.Worth 503 & counterpart 504. These trains operated until late 1989 when UP began its own operating pattern of train service. Hard to believe that its been almost 20 yrs since Miss Katy has become a fallen flag.
