Harvey Girl Documentary
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 1:30 PM
Dear Fellow Railroad Enthusiasts,

For several years, I have been working on a documentary about the Harvey Girls called “Opportunity Bound”, which tells how over 150,000 young women left home and went to work as waitresses along the transcontinental railroad. These Harvey Girls, as they were called, helped open the doors of the workplace to women. They were waitresses through The Great Depression, World War II, The Civil Rights Movement, The Rise of the Automobile and Airplane and Feminism.

“Opportunity Bound” recently received sponsorship from KOCE, Orange County’s PBS station. After national PBS broadcast, “Opportunity Bound” will tour to railroad museums through out the country. Despite sponsorship from PBS, I have had difficulty obtaining funding for this important project, and time is running out… the remaining Harvey Girls are in their 80’s and 90’s!

If anyone has any leads to corporate sponsors and/or individual donors interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to this important film, please contact me.
