Granted, it was not as slapstick or corney as the others, but it certainly had a 'cerebral' edge to it, lots of 'injokes' and references to catch. And Marvin is absolutely the funniest ! "Life! Don't talk to me about life".

Yes, I know, but I had to be a bit objective about what my list would be, and I really think the ones rated higher are definetly better comedies. The Guide's TV version was inferior to the novels and the radio show in that so much had to be left out. So while I am a huge fan of the novels I am fine with placing in the top ten but not at the top of the top ten.

YES YES YES, that's it. Loved it. I don't watch much tv at all these days. The computer is now my one eyed friend. About the only thing the tv is used for is to watch railroad videos.

2. The Young Ones[}:)]
Most of you will not know this one but the rest who do know watching Vivian, Rick, Neal, and Micheal could be seriously harmfull to your health. I actually injured myself falling off my chair laughing at the "Bambi" episode.

3. The Benny Hill Show[;)]
See others postings.

4.The Good Nieghbors[:)]
Young couple decide to chuck the rat race and turn their suburban home into a farm...very, very funny. Look for it on video.

5. The Black Adder[^]
(all 5 series, Black Adder I, Black Adder II, Black Adder the party of the Third part, Black Adders goes Forth, and Black Adder goes Back and Forth)
Rowan Atkison verbal wit at his very, very best. Western European history was never funnier.

6. Bean[:p]
Again Rowan Atkinson only this time physical humor, every episode is a homage to silent comedy greats Keaton and Chaplin.

7. The Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy.[8)]
Sci Fi skewered with a lightsaber up its catflap. You'll learn why its dreadfully inportant to know where your Towel is , and the the Answer to the Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is in fact, 42!

8. Red Dwarf
Again Sci Fi humor 3 million years in the future with a rastafarian astronuat, a complete prat of a hologram and a cat-man whos great-great-great x 1000 grandmother was the ships mascot.

9. The Goodies
70's Hippie humor at its very best (Kitty Kong episode), very rare to see it on this side of the pond.

and

10. The Alexie Sayles Show.
Again very rare to see on this side, but very pointetly barbed humor at the expense of Iron Maggies government.

Hey it my list and I'll put down what I thought was the funniest. There are others including some I've completely blanked out on, so if you can add to it feel free.

My C R S is working on me tonight, but I like John Cleese in the series about the British Bed & Breakfast. I just can't remember what it was called. I always like whatever he does. Even his old Magnavox commercials. Smart, very smart. [:)]

2. Fawlty Tower[:p]
John Cleese as the most insane innkeeper in England.
Look for the episodes called "The Germans" or "Basil the Rat"
Second only to Monty Python.

3. The Young Ones[}:)]

A very very funny series of a man tyring to destroy his business only to find the very things he hoped would fail become a huge success.

When I lived in England, one of the local bus companies had equipped some of their buses with TV's. Usually they were turned off, but the few times I saw them turned on, they were playing tapes of this show.

I have no idea whether the show was funny or not because they never turned the sound up.

Well, the Mookie of course, has something to say on this one!

I loved Laugh-In - and while I am 1/2 English - never understood Monte Python - Maybe I am too English for it! (Stuffy)

I emulated Arte Johnson and his tricycle - every time I went fishing. We always took those cheap webbed lawn chairs that would fold up like a paper napkin in water. I would always bait my own hook and the bait was always just a little bit out of reach. So instead of standing up - I would reach over and try to snag it. Always did the Arte Johnson bit - then had to try to get untangled alone, since husband would be laughing so hard, he couldn't function to get over and help me!

If you ever want to watch old comedy - take me fishing sometime!

The new crop of stand ups, Chris Rock, guys like that, did in the tongue in cheek humor that forced you to think about what was said.
George Carlon did that a lot, you had to think about what he was saying, like his seven dirty words routine.
Then, it was shocking, but made some sense, from his standpoint.
Now days, you hear those words on HBO regularly.
Did have one of the great big flower decals plastered to my bedroom wall, does that count?
And a poster of Goldie Hawn.
Stay Frosty,
Ed

I love the old Monthy Python movies, (Jim in his best British accent) "Tis a Killer Rabbit". lol But to truly appreciate them you need 4 or 5 friends and who knows how much to drink. [:D]
