She sure is pretty...although I'm having difficulties deciding whether the '89 or the '83 is my favorite. I think the official order from [tup] to [xx(]
-'89
-'83
-'88
-'82

Wow, nobody hates it yet!

I personally think that's the best unit so far. Now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the CNW and SP units!

The design is brilliant and sharp. The nightime photos are great.

The retroreflective decal for the 'G' is simply not there. Decals like that are custom made and if one gets damaged, a new copy would have to be made again someday. The U.P. employees must be waiting for another 'G' to be made for UP 1989. Where is the reflective 'G' right now?

That is a great looking paint scheme. I really like how the black paint is used to symbolize the Rocky Mountains that the DRG operated through. Or, am I the only person seeing that?

There's one more. I just hope the CNW one is a good one. Or I will be very pissed off. UP. Make me happy.

From the above photos ...

WHAT? White reflective tape! It was my understanding that a new law said reflective tape on new locomotives had to be yellow. For that reason I thought UP changed from red to yellow tape on new deliveries. So, what gives here?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- K.P.’s absolute “theorem” from early, early childhood that he has seen over and over and over again: Those that CAUSE a problem in the first place will act the most violently if questioned or exposed.

This is the third copy of this post in various threads on the same topic.

As promised I went back and got a few more shots after the crowd had died down. The catch is on someone's advice I switched the camera to "RAW" image mode, and I have no idea how to process RAW images properly.

Nor from this side of the fence can I get anything even close to a nose shot.

So here is the best I can do for the moment......

As usual, click the image to enlarge.

They must have put the reflective material in the "G" in Rio Grande on backwards, upside down, or inside out, because is does not shine like the other letters do. At first I thought it was just one image - it is all of them.
Here is the first night shot I snapped. With night shots, I am now finding the limits of this Rebel Camera vs. my good old F1. I really missed not having a 5 minute exposure to have time to "paint" the subject with light properly.

Now (assuming I can figure out how to process the RAW files) all I have to do is catch it in service on the Joint line or going through moffat tunnel.

I hate to see it when the 5390 is patched over and there is no more Pure DRGW units on the road, however, this unit will be a suitable replacement. This one has more of a historic touch to the paint scheme then the last three. I can't wait to see the 1989 come through St. Louis (if it ever does) The 1989 has got to be the best of em all, I like how they incorperated the old Bumblebee scheme from the 50's and didn't go all retro on us like the 1982, 1983 and 1988. I hope they use the same inspirate for the UP 1996, the SP heritage unit, and be painted in a Daylight inspired livery

Repost from another thread on the same topic.

The tarp got stuck on the horns for almost 5 minutes. So there had to be a pregnant pause here.

At last the cover is gone.

I noticed they encorporated both the old and new D&RGW logos!

And of course after Mayor Hickenlooper, I was the first one on the cab tour. Here I am getting out the nose.

I'm going back after the sun gets at a better angle for some more photos.

That is an awsome looking unit. U.P. comes threw again. I just wish BNSF would do something nice like the U.P. heritage units.

Was working yesterday for Uncle Pete, didn't have the time to stop. (It was his dime; the work had my full & undivided attention) - 52nd & Pecos behind the old DRGW PNM Building (Supt./DTO's Offices)

Will you take photos?

But that is probably too old. The "current" passenger scheme at the merger, used on the ski train, was Aspen Gold with a silver sash along the bottom separated with a single thick black stripe.

I would completely agree with you, except... Lord Atmo says "ew."

I'd like to see them do something cool with the logo that has the mountain in it. If it's similar to the other units, perhaps DGR&W Gold in the front, some transistion element from their mountain logo in the middle, and then black or silver behind that. [2c]

Thats wut im hoping for 2

Are you guys kidding? We have the D&RGW freight scheme any time we want. It's called the Wheeling & Lake Erie! It's exact save for the road name.

The only black paint scheme that was actually good was the Northern Pacific's final freight scheme. So until the MRL resurrects that, I'll take a UP heritage locomotive in a vintage F-unit scheme, if you please.
