I don't know the exact reason. Usually, any power out of the normal on IG2G3 is power that is on a short leash. There are different reasons for that short leash - just had repair work done at Proviso, existing mecahnical defect that is not critical for repair, ex-CNW unit waiting for the other two ex-CNW units to show up in Chicago so that they can be paired together, breaking in a new engine, etc. Another reason is that the usual SD40's could have been needed on another train and then whatever power was available was used for the IG2G3/IG3G2 turn.

IG2G3 With New UP GEVO 5285
Posted by AMTK161 on Saturday, May 6, 2006 11:06 PM
Hi guys,

Does anyone know why the IG2G3 (Proviso, IL to Roschelle, IL "local") had UP5285 in the lead today? Usually, that train is handled by a set of SD40-2's. Was 5285 the only unit; if not what was the trailing unit?

Thanks,
