I've had the Amfood everytime I've ridden on the NEC and it is okay. The premium sandwiches (depending on the cycle) can be good. The prices are a little steep for what you get, partly owing the monopoly status of selling food on the train.
As for the location of the cafe car, it depends on which way the consist is facing. During my college years travelin between Metropark and Boston, the cafe car was usually the 2nd to last car in the consist with the last car being the business class car. Recently I've started seeing the business class car as the first car behind the locomotive followed by the cafe car, then the rest of the standard coaches. If you would rather find out on your own rather than asking a conductor is to go up to the platform before the train arrives and observe the train as it pulls in. At that point you can determine where in the consist the cafe car is (whether is 2nd from the front or 2nd from the rear),

Next month I'll be riding coach on Acela Regional train 162 from Wilmington to Boston.
What's the food like on Acela Regionals? (quality, selection and price)
Where in the consist do they usually stick the Amcafe?
