What they should do is run that Rio Grand heritage unit with the ski train consist !!! Preferably solo. Wouldn't that be cool?

The CNW unit will be introduced on July 15 at Ogilvie Transportation Center, Chicago.

The SP unit will be unveiled in August (the 19th) at Roseville.

How'd you find that out? Will it be a public event?

You can just call the UP PR department. But the Denver event was for employees only, although there were bunches of folk there with press passes, and special invitations from UP executives (like Mayor Hickenlooper).

Ogilvie is sizable. I went through there on a Metra from Harvard, IL a couple years back. However you found out I'm glad you shared that info. It made my day! I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Privileged information.

But I don't see how anything done at Ogilvie could be closed to the public.

Someone else quoted my source, I see--I wonder why this source had to say that "Ogilvy" ("Ogilvie" is the correct spelling) is north of Union Station, when almost anybody knows that it's a good-sized station in its own right.

I agree. This one looks good. I like the Mountains on the Cab. No migration required I attended the event and took this.

UP 8468 is getting painted in straight UP Wings/Flags at Juniata. 8521 at Horicon will become the DRGW unit.

dont really get why they would do that. not when they're trying so desperately to eradicate all evidence of CNW's existance. and that's gonna be a lot of SPs to patch or repaint before the heritage unit. and then you have to wonder. will the heritage one be in the old yellow and red or the more recent grey and red? something to ponder on i guess

It could also very well be the 1960s "Black Widow" scheme.

Judgiong from what UP has done before, it will be a new age scheme.

Hey all...I caught UP 8468 being sent to NS's Juniata Shops in Altoona, PA on June 4, 2006. Here is the photo:

It is obviously still in primer paint but it is a higher number and I was just wondering if you guys knew any information about this loco or if it will become a 'Heritage' unit.

Regards,
Rich

UP isn't the only operation with a Heritage fleet. At least two airlines have done the same. Mexicana has painted one of its A319's in the paint scheme from the 1950's (similar to Pan Am from that period) and American has a 757 in the Astrojet colors from the 1960's.

The Heritage Program is to insure that Union Pacific is still using the Road Names and Images of Fallen Flags which have been merged into their operations.

It is a way to prove they still own the rights to these Historical Railroads.

isnt DRGW the next heritage unit in line for the color? when is CNW coming up? and for this matter, why is UP doing this? it seems too friendly for something they'd do...

Lord Atmo,

Read the post again--this is UP 8521 that's going for (re)painting. It will probably come back from WSOR as the D&RGW heritage unit. We've had enough UP bashing over the loss of CNW's last Spartan-cab unit on another thread.

I'm trying to move on, too.

Lord Atmo

You must immediately purchase G Gauge or No. 1 Gauge models of Chicago & North Western Diesel-Electric Locomotives. That is the only way to go. They are so big it will be like having the real units in your own home or somebody's back yard.

i am so gonna draw patches on more UP locomotive drawings on michael eby's site later. bout time their cabs got ruined
Have you considered taking up modeling? [?] That way they will live forever and you can hold them too. I still have steam engines in my life. If you squint just right they almost look real. [2c] As always ENJOY
