Anyone care to divulge what their "handle" means or where it came from.

Bet I can guess Ed from Houston!

Mine as most of you know - is our aged cat Mookie. Jenny is what my mother wanted - she must have been out of her mind in pain or something.

Kevin is pretty straight forward.

And Zardoz is, I think, just the neatest thing!

So if you can print it, can you tell at least me - why you picked your name that you use?

If you don't answer this, I will go off on another tangent and maybe ask about salacious curves and failing grades!

Captain Clack is the main character in Procol Harum's song, 'Good Captain Clack.' Significance? Nil, except that it just sounds good.

Originally my handle was just plain Willy. However once when I was updating my profile the computer changed it to Willy2. I have no idea what happened. Of course my real name is Willy. For some reason I just wanted to have a very " Unfancy " handel. I may change it however.

Well, the first time I registered for a forum, "BoxcarWillie" was taken (though I have yet to see it used), so I selected "BentnoseWillie" in honour of my bent beak (a railfanning injury that I won't go into here). For further forums, I kept the handle for the sake of continuity (and accountability).

B-Dubya started after the last US election, when I started signing emails "Dubya".

Wondering if I should keep all this in a a .txt file for these threads, I remain:
B-Dubya -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside every GE is an Alco trying to get out...apparently, through the exhaust stack!

kenneo = old (very old) "secure log in" (secure?????)
kenn = Kenneth
e = Eric
o = Ovregaard

My name About as inventive as Willie, or Ed, but that's OK. I refuse to hide behind some "inventive" moniker. I am who I am. What/who I am not, is a Missouri.

Iron Horse Man: mythological beast of railroad mythology. Part man, part horse, all steam, Iron Horse Man is the hero of the railroads.

Actually, I was trying to think of a screen name for my instant messenger service. So I tried to think of something that described me. I like trains and I like running. I had recently done a duathalon so I thought maybe "Iron Man." But no, that name is overdone and besides, that's reserved for triathalons. Maybe, then, "Iron Horse," which is used to described the old 4-4-0 steam engines. But that wasn't unique and still didn't describe my running. So then I thought some more and just kinda merged the two: Iron Horse Man. The duathalon I did was called the Iron Horse Duathalon, so that helped. I put "Iron Horse Man" as my screen name and everyone liked it so the name has stuck since.

When I signed up for my Trains.com account the name kansaspacific (my favorite railroad name) was already taken, but I've yet to see that name anywhere. So was the Max Power name also taken, which somehow I earned that nickname at work. Probably from my outstanding ablility to take control of any situation. Or maybe because I watch Simpons everyday, there's still some debate as to the reason.

So I used ironhorseman for this account. And that's the truth, or is it? See my profile for the rest of the story (and, man, is it ever a story!)

As with Kenneo, and Bentnosewilly, I wanted accountability.
And my handle at work sounds funny here, snakecharmer has a lot of evil conotations,
and railroaders dont like real snakes.
All I have to do is bring a pet from home, and I can have the entire place to myself.
Stay Frosty,
Ed

I chose my handle from a signal aspect under the NORAC Rules I spend so much time living by.

NORAC Rule 281c states:

"NAME: Limited Clear

Proceed at Limited Speed until entire train clears all interlocking or spring switches, then proceed at Normal Speed.

In CSS territory with fixed automatic block signals, trains not equipped with operative cab signals must approach the next signal at Limited Speed."

Limited Speed is 40 mph.

OK. My real name is Carl Shaver. I didn't know, when I chose my e-mail address, whether "CShaver" would be unique, so I stuck on the extra "R", which, together with the first R, stands for "Railroad".

There will now be a moment of silence for everyone to roll his or her eyes, just as my family did...

Carl

Railroader Emeritus (practiced railroading for 46 years--and in 2010 I finally got it right!)

CAACSCOCOM--I don't want to behave improperly, so I just won't behave at all. (SM)

Brother Carl - yours was an easy one to figure out - first time I saw it, I wasn't sure about the C, but the Shaver and railroad just popped out. But then, we are related so it must run in our family.

(we are going to really start the rumors, now - )

NO NO NO.... I am not married to Houston Ed and I am no relation to CShaveRR - I wouldn't know either one of them if I tripped over them!

Could've been "Black-thumb" instead of mudchicken (tangents, curves, grades and measurements in impossible conditions aside)...Most people grow stuff, railway maintenance (M/W, MOW, gandy dancers, whatever) people are always trying to kill anything that grows and make sure it stays that way.
