Wow - I bet the forum lit up when all you people out there saw that headline!

I have some stories, but this one is mine all alone!

Went out to a major shopping center this weekend. Parked waiting for family to shop. Good sized motorcycle came up the street that separates the parking from the shops. He had it cranked! Pulled it up into a wheelie and right there in front of me, flipped over backwards! The bike didn't fall on him, but went east and he went rolling several times back to the west!

Some of the facts before I finish - he was about 50 feet from a stop sign and a 4 way intersection.

Busy time of day - about 4 pm.

He wasn't a "kid" - he was 30 something.

The motorcycle flew thru the intersection and landed in a grassy area just beyond.

I was ready to administer CPR and was reaching for my cell phone when his friend, also on a motorcycle came up with his cell phone in his ear.

The guy got up - and wobbled a lot, but he walked away toward the intersection and disappeared over a hill out of my line of sight.

Saw him later with several other guys and they were checking out the pavement where the rear fender of the bike gouged the pavement.

Now...This was a guarded crossing. It only had a stop sign; no flashing lights. He would have never gotten stopped at the sign, but would have gone right thru the intersection. I didn't hear him whistle, nor did he ring any bells except his own.

Where was the train? And if someone had been hit in their car with a flying motorcycle, which railroad would have been in the wrong? And do we need gates and flagmen at this intersection?

These are tough questions and we need to find answers!

Some of the dumbest things I have seen done where done by people over the age of 30. But it is way of weeding out the stupid ones if they kill themselves. Here in Michigan we seem to be having a rash of suicide by train lately. Imagine how the crews feel knowing they cannot do anything without the bad results happening.

Now the dizzy burnette is a expert on stopping distances of motor bikes. What is the stopping distance of a motorcycle there expert?
Psst the rider would be tumbling east also the same direction the bike would be going. That gravity thing.

I like to know what happen to the bike? ive seen several guys do all sorts of stupid things on bikes. felt sorry for the bikes. and yes missouri she does know how fast a bike can stop. do you? But i know for a fact you dont. and you wont ever know.its not in some book to look up sorry to bust your bubble.

Wrong Missouri - the dizzy brunette is bright enough to figure out that a motorcycle going that fast and up in the air, isn't going to stop on a dime - and he would have never gotten stopped in time. The bike went east and the rider rolled several times to the WEST. I wasn't real sharp at physics, but I did get thru the class. Gravity took over about mid-air, when the cycle was still going very fast and the rider was writing his will in mid-air.

I have ridden a few bikes and while I am not the expert you want me to be, I know a little about motorcycles, speed and why idiots should not attempt to ride them.

But I appreciate your reply and look forward to futher discussions.

Wabash- as we left the parking lot, we saw two bikes parked about a block away. We were on the west side of a rise, the intersection was the top of the hill and downhill on the otherside. I didn't get out of the car to investigate, but the bike had to have landed somewhere in the intersection or just beyond. It disappeared completely from sight as it traveled. Looked like a great Motocross jump! It was sitting upright, so have no clue as to damage. There was a pickup truck on the scene also, he must have been in the area and that is who the friend called.

We have them doing things like that on our street, which is quite a hill - they rev them up and fly up the street, but there are no stop signs or pedestrians for them to run into. Just trees, and other cars (busy street)

my driver raced dirt bikes when he lived in California - and had his own for many years. Never went anywhere w/o full leathers and helmet. Said the only thing between you and the road was skin, otherwise.

Please be careful - we don't want to lose any forum people.

Outhere in the land of smoggy sunshine, it seams we can't get through a single month without some knucklehead trying to beat the train (Frieght trains, Jamtrack, Metro-link, and Metro light rail) thru a crossing, gets hit and when they pry their sorry behinds out of the twisted wreck of thier car they always say (if their still breathing) that (1.) they thought the train would stop for them,(2.) they thought they had the right of way or (3.) they didnt see the train. This happens at major crossing with gates, lights, bells, the whole 9 yards. If these Idiots pull around gates, or on occasion drive right thru them, get hit and turned into guacamole,(or try to ride a bike like Evel Kinevel) I call it proof of Darwinism in action. Stupid people get killed in really stupid ways. Idiots who try to beat the train or stop on crossings at traffic because they cant mentally decipher the big signs that say "Do Not Stop on Tracks" are just that: Idiots.
On the newest stretch of light-rail here, the Gold Line thru Pasadena, there are gates on BOTH sides of the roadway, thats "4" crossing arms, instead of two, to totally block the crossing from both sides, concrete median strips (same reason) AND little gate arms that lower to block the pedestrian sidewalk. Whadda ya wanna bet within a month some moron will find a way to get hit at one of these crossings. We even had a stupid jogger running down the center of the tracks with his walkman blaring into his headphone so loud that he can't here the locomotive horn blaring at his back. Some idiot wrecking his bike flinging it through an intersection while his face is sliding in the gutter is just Stupid is as Stupid dose, Evolution takes no prisoners.

People realy make me wonder. I was at an auto cross race this weekend whith the Beretta guys (In Miller Park) here in town. I was in the pits when some guy came up to me and said I have to sign a waiver. As you could imagine I was not to surprised to hear this. Its kinda sad though that a group has to have waivers to protect them selfs from the morons. These pits where not moving pits like you see at Indy or Daytona, they where like the drag a way pits. Ironicly enough I got home later on that night only to see a photographer get royaly pegged by a lemans style car in a moving pit! All the announcer said was "Oh did he pay....did her ever pay!" I guess people don't realise what kind of danger they put themselves into. My self I love planes, trains, and automobiles. If I get hurt by trying to get that perfect picture, then its MY fault.

Oh yea and on that whole Drag a way, planes and automobiles thing... I saw a Jet powered Limo driven by "Jimmy Jet". OMG I was less then 20 feet from the line when he hit the after burners. His time was 1/4 mile in 7.5 sec. @ 220 mph....SWEET!! If I would have went deaf I whould NOT have blamed him or the owners of the track. I knew darn well what was going to happen.......A whole lotta shakin' goin' on!! I had to make sure my leg hairs where not singed. WOW what a sight! I talked to him after the pass. I was not shure who enjoyed it more, the Beretta group or Jimmy Jet :)

P.S. I love bikes but those drag racers on bikes are either the bravest or the looniest people out there. I guess the brass ones do not slow you down @ 160 mph!

You want LOUD! and hair burning off the back of your neck, try an F-14 with afterburners alight buzzing you at about 100 feet at about 500 mph. happened to me while mountain biking out near Mirimar NAS in San Diego backcounty back in the days when the Top Gun School was still there. Guess the pilot thought it would be fun to do some "hedge hopping".

Its truely amasing how those pilots can make such a large & noisy thing sneak up on you. Then again they ar doing 600+ mph! While I was at Pensacola Beach for the Blue Angles homecoming they had one of the "Bad Boys" sneak up on the left while being distracted on the right. It had so much thrust it was kicking op a "rooster tail" of water 75' into the air while only 150' from the gulf's surface! I so wish I had a photo of that WOW!!!!!!!!!!
