Anybody like to talk about the FEC? This is my favorite railway and info about it is sparse, even on the internet. I spent alot of time exploring the FEC while I grew up in South Florida; now that I am elsewhere, I would appreciate talking about recent developments.
Current rosters? New sidings? Imminent 'takeover' by NS? Thanks!!

John

Have you heard that Amtrak will begin service on FEC trackage this summer between Jacksonville & Miami?
I wonder if they will continue to use CSX trackage as well, or are they switching routes completely?
I've often thought that CSX seemed a little crowded with CSX freight, Amtrak, & Tri-Rail all sharing the same line.

There was an article in the local Ft Pierce newspaper already years ago about building a station there, anticipating Amtrak. Another article in Trains last year covered all the new Amtrak routes in planning, including the one you mentioned over the FEC.
I believe it was in a newsgroup elsewhere that I read about West Palm Beach getting ready, and a new track would connect the CSX and FEC there ( I say new track because I think that an old track that already connected the two near their stations downtown was removed years ago). This seems logical, since it would remove Amtrak off the busy CSX/Tri-Rail corridor, and exsisting routes coming in from the west wouldnt have to be disrupted or duplicated. That's about all I know for now on that subject. I'm looking forward to taking the train back down the east coast this Summer!

I recently bought the 2003 edition of Speedway to Sunshine, The story of the Florida East Coast Railway at a hobby shop. It is listed on Amazon. The book was originally published in 1984.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.
