This exchange about the yard at Galesburg reminds me:
Don't forget that this coming weekend June 27, 28, 29 is Railroad Days in Galesburg Illinois.
I do not believe much will be on display at the depot, nor do I believe there will be any yard tours. But the swap meet at Carl Sandburg College is a "go" and the railfanning is great from the 4th St Bridge and the Thurlwell (spelling?) St Bridge. You get a great view of the yard and with binocs can make out most of the action at the hump. See you there!

Galesburg Yard
1) The Dwell time for for a car was 29 hours in Jan and Feb and 28 hours in March.
2) Empty auto racks are humped normally. A loaded auto rack may be humped onto a clear track and no cars humped behind it till other cars are there to buffer. Usually the loads are shoved over the hump.
3) All jobs in Galesburg are RCO except the 2nd shift City job and the third shift Rip job.
