As of 2001 my roster shows these as UP 2350-2358, but with the renumbering I don't know. Did they put new fuel tanks on them or do they still have the high clearance ones?

Hi David, actually Kennecott Copper sold 9 units to MKT, which was merged into UP. I also had one of the units at the yard in Roseville, CA..

At least one of these units was aquired by uncle pete. The high cab was converted to a standard one. Some times it can be seen toiling around Denver. It is heratige is very odvious.

well when you buy 28 loco's you get them the way you want. they had the high cab because they were an engineer only operation. there was no one on that side of the cab.

Even if it was built that way on purpose, it looks kinda' like the result of a "shotgun wedding" between a GP39 and an SW1500.

If I'm not mistaken, the pit to smelter right of way has no overpasses just grade crossings

Thanks Nathan, The extra visiblity makes sense. Would it have problems going under bridges?

It is a Kennecott Copper Corp. GP39-2 locomotive.
The thing different about it is it has a HIGH cab which was built for the Kennecott Copper Corp. in Salt Lake City Utah. These units were built for extra visiblity in Bingham Canyon Copper Mine.
Did this answer your question?
