Bio-diesel/ethanol

I was wondering if you railroad guys and gals use bio-diesel in your locomotives.Also do you switch out any ethanol plants?How many switch tracks does one take?we have a plant that is suppossed to built near here.I was just curious.I think it is good because it supports farmers and reduces foreign oil dependance.Any thoughts?stay safe

Hi joe,
Is this plant just going to produce the ethanol, or other products as well? Can really guess as to how many tracks there will be, but can tell you the refineries down here have a lot. Shell has aroung 20 miles of track within its plant, but then again they make several products there. For a single purpose plant, well, Hampshire produces hydrocayanitic acid, (liquid cayanide) only, and they have a sideing and six tracks leading to their loading racks. Its going to depend on what they produce, one or several products.

i believe its just ethanol according to the paper.It has to go through the usual politics.When it does go through I'll send pictures.i have my drums ready for your m&m rap too. ba boom chick.

Not too far from where I live, there is an ADM corn refinery that not only puts out alcohol, but corn syrup, and spent mash (animal feed). I might assume other products as well, but I am not certain. Corn is really a versatile crop, as are Soybeans. I think we as a nation could almost eliminate our dependence on imported petroleum, if we just would further develope our "oil field on the farm". Our air would be cleaner too.....
