Once actually.. and i stopped with 150 yards of track to spare! didn't hit anyone.. din't kill anyone.. they were stalled on the tracks and i was comming out of a curve..

Can you deal with that?

i doubt your 1986 K car can take on my machine.. but we can try.. park it on the crossing.. and we'll see who wins. do this at your own risk.. and signal to me that it's you, because i don't want to square the wheels or stop uselessly.

I have never been given a report of any kind
I'm sure the company has one, but not me, and I'm
sure not Ed either, also I dont suppose the co.
would want the involved employees giving out
information, we're always told not to talk about it, to refer any inquiries to the company.

A Paulina man was killed Saturday morning when his pickup truck was hit by a train in St. James Parish.

Parish Sheriff Willy Martin said Donald St. Pierre, 68, a maintenance worker at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina, apparently did not see the train as he was crossing the tracks at David Road about 10:30 a.m.

St. Pierre was headed north on David Road, the dividing line between Lutcher and Gramercy, when he was hit by the eastbound train carrying industrial products.

Hitting the driver's side of the pickup, the train pushed the truck about 100 yards until the truck veered off onto a railroad spur, Martin said. The train stopped, and emergency workers called to the scene took St. Pierre to Lutcher Hospital, where he died at 11:02 a.m.

No one on the train was injured, and a routine post-accident test for alcohol showed the engineer was clean, Martin said.

A sign is posted at the crossing, but there are no flashing lights or dropping arms, he said.

A female bicyclist crossing railroad tracks in Versailles was struck and killed by a train yesterday afternoon.

Samantha Bouchard, 24, of McKeesport, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 3:15 p.m. incident.

She was trying to cross tracks on Juniper Street at First Street, where train traffic activates flashing lights but no swinging gate or arm to block vehicles.

Bouchard may have been using the Yough bicycle trail, which passes through the community, said Dave Obley, chief of Versailles Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1.

He said two trains apparently passed the Juniper Street crossing in opposite directions at the same time.

"There was a train heading eastbound on the tracks, and she was waiting for the train to clear," Obley said. "We're assuming that once it cleared, she started across and never heard the westbound train coming."

He was among a group of firefighters marching at the same time in the Versailles Memorial Day parade just a few blocks away.

They arrived at the crossing within two minutes of the borough's emergency siren activating, and Obley said he and paramedics both attempted to revive Bouchard.

CSX Railroad spokesman Gary Sease said trains are permitted to travel up to 40 mph through the area, but he was uncertain how fast the freight train was traveling at the time.

The crew stopped and gave interviews to police investigators, but Sease said he had no details of what they said.

He said the train, which was headed from Philadelphia to Chicago with two locomotives and 55 cars, was one of about a dozen using the tracks yesterday.

Holiday weekend traffic was light, he said, compared with the 25 trains a day normally passing through the area.

Obley noted that some area residents had expressed concern about whether the crossing was safe, but he said authorities knew of no serious incidents there in the past 20 years

"We have two crossings in town, and that's the safer of the two," the chief said.

While were at it, why don't you describe to us the pay structure and how it inherently "promotes" the use of emergency breaking(I'm kidding of course), rather describe how it promotes getting from Point A to Point B as fast as you can. If you were going so slow and could see for miles then why didn't YOU attempt to stop? Its all of course a mute point because we don't have the facts, just your side of the story. For some reason we aren't privy to the facts of the accident. They did report it didn't they?

I don't believe my employment is of any concern to you, however your "accident" greatly interest a number of us. Why the hesitance to reveal the great mystery. All we want to do is look at the FRA report (if there is one). Thanks again, look forward to hearing from you.

Just a reminder that not all those killed at crossing are idiots. Here is another close call.
Why of course we don't know the facts about this we do know that apparently the horn was possibly ineffective unless of course they were just a couple of "idiots" trying to get themselves killed.

Train smashes car, injuring two

PERRY -- A man and woman were hurt Sunday when a train struck and destroyed their car about four miles west of town, authorities said.

A Kansas Highway Patrol accident report identified the victims as Robert T. Trude, 74, and Norma J. Trude, 65, both of Perry.

Both were taken to Topeka's St. Francis Health Center, where a nursing supervisor said Robert Trude was listed in stable condition late Sunday with fractures to his right leg and pelvis. Norma J. Trude was treated at the hospital, then released, the supervisor said.

Authorities said the crash occurred at about 4 p.m. on railroad tracks that cross a private drive to the Trude home, about one-half mile south of the junction of US-24 highway and Bridge Road. Near the crash scene, Bridge Road curves from south to east, but the private drive continues south through the railroad crossing, which is regulated by stop signs but has no lights or mechanical gates.

The accident report indicated Robert Trude was driving a 1997 Buick Regal northbound on the private drive when he failed to yield the right-of-way to the eastbound train. The Union Pacific train had two locomotives at the front.

Master Trooper R.D. Baker said the engineer -- identified on the accident report as James M. Lyles, 54, of Council Grove -- sounded the train's whistle as a warning, but couldn't avoid hitting the car.

The impact mangled the front of the vehicle, activating its air bags. Afterward, as troopers investigated at the scene, a man walked to the wreckage and removed flowers that were being transported in the car.

The Trudes had been wearing seat belts, the accident report said.

We are still waiting for some info. on your "accident". I hear the railroad pays well. Works out well for all concerned to be paid by the run not the hour. Must be so you can represent yourself when you accidently (sight distance of how many miles applies to the engineer as well) kill somebody. Why not consider being part of the solution Ed.

A 60 mph train is more out of control than any 1,000 drunks ever thought about being. I think it is railroaders are addicted to $$$$$ and have to justify it somewhere. What railroad you work for there dimrod? What color is your paycheck? What are the last 6 digits of the check #?

I know what you are saying, Of course if i say something he will change it to his own agenda but I know for a fact the rail i work for hire 3 19yr old conductors . and no offense to you kev but most 19 yr old dont use the common sense they should have. only 1 of the last 19yr old kids have common sense that we have i would venture to say you do as you have seen first hand what can happen. i hope you have many years of happiness in your career. as for me i am done with this post i wont look at it again,

The thing is we are telling the truth but you dont want to hear it. you say do we know what it is like to lose a love one hit at a crossing. well what makes this more important than drunk drivers hitting people. If people do stupid things inocent people will be hurt in case of railroads its the crews in drunk drivers its someone minding their own buisness. The thing is you are complaining to the wrong people and you are not going to change anyones mind. this site is here for talking railroading not death . You bring up the fact with every statement that you lost someone well we have heard you and frankly i dont care. I didnt get on here ranting about how i felt when i killed that person i hit and there was nothing i could do differant. and dont worry i wont try and convice you either as far as i am concerned it done and over, such as this post also. Yeah and all telephone poles must have a 95% diagonal cut at the bottom so they snap off when hit also. What a dip.There's only two crashes in 2000 with 7 occupants and none show any injuries

One looks like it was caused by lack of reflectorization on the train--- cross-bucks on a state highway with black rail cars at night---that ain't dangerous is it? Especially if it's empty flat cars where both cross bucks can be seen. The other was caused by a stalled vehicle and the train didn't have occupied crossing equipment aboard it looks like.

The only thing I've seen in Canada was where 5 people from a employment agency were killed at a gated crossing and somehow the video that was on the front of the train disappeared for three hours
somehow.

There were no reported deaths or injuries . The 18 year old female driver was moving on the crossing and was reported to have not stopped. There were 7 occupan t(s) in the vehicle. The view of the track was not obstructed. Hazardous material was not being transported by rail or highway vehicle. The crossing was protected by: Crossbucks HIGHWAY USER RAN INTO THE 17TH CAR OF THE TRAIN. TRAIN CREW DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE STRUCK UNTIL NOTIFIED BY THE RAILROAD DISPATCHER AND STOPPED AT NEXT CROSSING IN ARKINDA.

The railroad was operating on main line track over a public road crossing. It was clear, at night and the temperature w as 80. There were no reported deaths or injuries. The male driver was stopped on the crossing and was reported to have (unknown). There were 7 occupant(s) in the vehicle. The view of the track was not obstructed. Hazardous material was not being transported by rail or highway vehicle. The crossing was protected by: Gates, Standard flashing lights, Bells (audible), Crossbucks BOX 41. STOPPED BEFORE GATES.

Yes - Kevin is right- Signals or anyhting close to the road topple easily.. if i ran at a railroad crossing sign.. i weigh about 130.. if i ran full tilt into one.. i would damage whatevr part hit the signal, but i should be able to knock it over effortlessly.. i'm not saying i've done it beofre, but it goes in accordance with.. i belive it's now the "Highway safety code" but i could be wrong.
