Hollywood studio effects I'm sure. After all, did you really think that the producers of "Silver Streak" actually crashed a real train into the station? All "smoke and mirrors". ( and a lot of flubs that us railfans caught right away).

I thought the loco was destroyed when it went over the edge of the gorge?

The locomotive used in the movie still operates on the Sierra Railroad in California.

In 1992 I visited Universal Studios in Florida and they had a display of that particular engine inside their themepark. Whether it was the actual one used in the movie or a replica, I have forgotten. It is hard to say where it is now since that movie series has aged quite a bit now.
