The UP and BNSF have both about the same number of trains, with UP having a few more with the locals that run around that area serving the local plants. Freight schedules for these trains are hard to come by, however if you search the web there are sites that will give you that info. The best way of doing that are finding when they leave Chicago (Clyde-BNSF, Proviso-UP) and add about an hour to an hour and a half for westbounds. Eastbounds are harder to judge but the park does have the scanner piped through out the place. Bring your own scanner if you have one and the BN freq is 161.100 and the UP freq is the old CNW freq 160.890. Good Luck

I get there about 6 or 8 times per year. Because of travel time (approx 2 hours) from my home I am usually there from about 9:00AM to 4:30 or 5:00PM, usually on Fri or Sat as those tend to be the busiest days. I can't give specific times but I can tell you that the busiest times are usually the from arrival till noon or 12:30 and from about 2:30 to leaving. Early afternoon tends to be fairly slow--for Rochelle, which is still better than "busy" at most places. UP is almost always busier than BNSF.
