Locomotive design/ers

After leaving the buutocks ugly box form behind, at least for awhile, US and at least UK engine designers used for about ten years locomotives with "noses" in front of the windshield.
This, to me the most attractive form, was also used heavily on some electrics, worldwide.
A: Who is the "father" of this design, and who designed the US and UK locomotives that did use this design?

B:Why did it seem to appear on more electrics than other forms?

C: Why did it go away?

D: How come with a few exceptions, Euro locomotives adapted a bread-loaf shape?
