...Wow, how could two reasonable sources be that far apart....Ford County Historical Society, Dodge City, Kansas indicated it was {The brand new} Atchinson Topeka and Sante Fe...in September, 1872.

The ATSF built a line through Dodge City in 1883. This is according to the Routledge Historical Atlas of American Railroads.

I'll go with 1874, it's a complete guess but it's based in part on other factors of Western history.
