Well #8 is scheduled to leave Chicago at 2:15pm. I would have to say anytime after 3:30pm would be possible. Of course delays are possible, but without having to make any stops it could make good time. I will have to watch the camera and see.

Noah,

It was actually listed on the TRAINS Newswire on Friday Sept 16th. The detour is because of CP trackwork in your backyard. Apparently CP is replacing 29,000 ft of welded rail on the Tomah Sub from 1 mile east of La Crosse to 3 miles west of Wisconsin Dells.

Only #8 will be detouring, #7 is not affected. The detour dates are Oct 4-6, 10-13 and 17-18.

I'm curious, where did you see this info on the rerouting of the Empire Builder? Did they give a reason why? I live near Wisconsin Dells, and sometimes like to go over and check out the Empire builder when it get's to the Depot there, and I want to know days to not even bother going over.

It's been a while since I left the railroad industry and I don't have my rail atlas nearby, but doesn't Amtrak's announcement that the Empire Builder will be detoured over the BN from Minneapolis-Chicago on certain dates in October put it on the Trains webcam?
