Anyone have a July 1994 copy of "Classic Toy Trains"? There is an article in that issue called "Lionel Gets Drafted". That should tell us everything that they made during the war years. I saw compasses and telegraph keys made by them for sale on ebay, but there might be some other items as well.

Interesting, I heard on I Love Toy Trains, the episode on Lionels history, that it was the Navy.

I know that Lionel made telegraph keys during WWII, but not positive who they made them for. I am guessing the Army Signal Corps. I think they made other items, so will say they made something for Army, Navy, and Marines.

I had asked about the first railroad to use the telegraph to dispatch trains. Please don't ruin this one, just guess, no matter how easy you think it is.

That's not trivia, that's common knowledge among us! It was in 1852 by Charles Minot on the Erie.
