Hello, The SD40T-2 has the capability of having a 116 inch "snoot" nose bacause it has a v16 prime mover however the SD45T-2 has a v20 engine so it cannot have a nose over 88 inches also the major spotting feature of this locomotive from any distance what-so-ever is directly above the "tunnel motor" style radiator intakes the SD40T-2 has only 2 access doors while the SD45T-2 has 3. Happy spotting :) UPTRAIN -Zach- " I love the smell of journal grease in the morning"

I've tried posting a web address and hyperlink and this @#%^@#$ site won't let me do it! Just do a net search for Jolly's Utah Depot.

The 40T has eight long doors on each side of the long hood and the 45T has ten long doors. This is because of the difference in length between the 16 cylinder and 20 cylinder engines. The 40T has two access hatches between the cooling intake and the rooftop mounted radiators and the 45T has three access hatches in this area. These hatches correspond to the number of fans pushing air through the radiators.
Jolley Goodfellow has a great Tunnel Motor section on his webpage, will try and find it and post a link here.

Micha, to the best of my knowledge and from personal observations I recall that the only substantial visual differences between them are the overall length (needed due to the difference in size of the prime mover on the 45) and (I recall) an additional cooling fan on the roof of the 45.

Are there any visual differences between a SD40T-2 and a SD45T-2? Or does they just have other engines?
Thanks, Micha
