Hurricane in Yucatan, Mexico
Posted by ddechamp71 on Friday, July 22, 2005 5:20 AM
A while ago I went to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. I discovered the local railroading, with a very interresting museum (hosting the last F7 in Mexico) run by a very kind former NdeM railroader (but only speaking spanish!), and a small railroad line going from Merida to Valladollid, 100 miles east, formerly operated by NdeM.

By the way it's interresting to notice this line and its terminus Valladollid is the very southeastern part of the north american (Canada, US, Mexico) railroad network. This line is currently run by the US consortium Genesse & Wyoming. Unfortunately it drives a very light traffic (2 to 3 trains a week each direction).

Are some of you aware of the line's current status, considering the recent hurricane that struck the area and its low traffic?

Thanks for any information.

Dominique
