Back when the UP acquired the Western Pacific a lot of WP engines ended up at Salt Lake City in storage. It was interesting checking them out (back when you could do that without arousing the railroad security forces to take action)

The leases on these units have expired and UP has chosen not to renew them. They are being sent there for storage while final disposition arrangements are being made.

I am wondering if anyone know why the UP is moving all the former Chicago Northwestern GP50's to Salt Lake City? They have been small groups on North platte to Roper trains the past couple of weeks and do not show leaving SLC. Has UP sold them to someone in the Utah area or just storing them in SLC?
