well i have been thinking about this and i am ready to commit. i am going to buy a tyco. cost is the reason i dont think it will pull more for its size but it still be fun... it will only use a few amps per hour so it is fair on exspenses. and wal-mart will always have them in stock.

Typan, if you really want to compare between manufactures, with power/fuel consumption/reliability, and performance, If you are a shortline operator, I'd suggest an Alco. My experience so far, has been with the "539" prime mover. You just can't kill 'em! Fuel consumption rate is about 75% of comparable 2 cycle diesels, and the block itself is practically "bulletproof"!
Fuel line problems are the biggest draw-back to the 539 units. When the temp dips below freezing, an idling unit will slowly die. The first thingt to happen is the filters waxing up.

Do you mean GE and EMD? GM is the owner of EMD. I would start a new thread with the correct names if I were you.

What are the better units of each?

Name them than compare the two units in:
Power, Fule consumtion, Repair and Driverbilty.

and don't fight about it. LOL
