This is verry true SD-45 are very rare i have gotten only a few shots of them in the last few years i did get to climb up in the cab of one that was sitting in a sideing it was on its way to the repair shop and 2 of the broken pistons were sitting on the floor i opened the side acces doors and the block was a mess where it had thrown a rod; this is a problem with the SD-45 it had a 20 cylinder block the crank was too long and all other EMD since have gone back to 16 cylinder arangments, the SD -45 was famous for snapping crankshafts becouse they were so long ;hope this was of some help [:)] glennbob

Zardoz, you can operate without a unit equipped with ditchlights but it's 20 MPH over public road crossings so it doesn't happen very often.

Yeah, it's a neat shot and I'll bet he wasn't going very far running like that, it's a real pain to have to operate from the left side looking out the long hood and, is that cab signal territory?

Hi, Brian here, this is my first post on this forum. I have pictures of a similar situation that I observed here in Cedar Rapids back in mid-April, only these engines were pulling cars.

Get your pics of the WC 45's ASAP, by the end of the year, they might be going away. CN has new locomotives on order to replace the WC 45's.

See if you lived over here in the great state of Pennsylvania on the eastern side, espeacially southeastern side of PA, seeing a WC unit and a Maersk Sealand unit, is something we Pennsylvanians don't get to see eveyday. The main thing that comes around eastern PA is a whole bunch of GE widenosed units, and a couple of EMD standard cab units, I've got to say that I've never ever seen high horsepower EMD's other than SD50s or SD40-2 over here.

Don't need ditch lights if that end never actually leads. (I know, it's leading now, but IIRC, there are exceptions to the rule that cover this.) This being a light hop, I'd bet the Maersk loco will be in the lead when they pull out with a train.

Another thing I find interesting is that the WC unit has no ditch lights; I thought those were required on the lead locomotive.

Out here it's rare. Also, the second unit is the only one in that scheme.
